Recognizable painting style, vivid biography and memorable appearance made Frida Kahlo one of the most popular artists. Frida’s talent was revealed thanks to two events, which the artist herself later called “the main catastrophes of her life.” The first disaster was a car accident, which confined Frida to bed for many months and forced her to pick up a brush and paints out of boredom.
The second is marriage with one of the main Mexican artists and political activist Diego Rivera – a constant source of feelings that Frida splashed onto the canvas. Most of the artist’s works are self-portraits, in which one can see not only an extraordinary artistic style that echoes surrealism and naive art, but also the pain from numerous operations, a difficult relationship with her husband and the temperament of a Mexican woman.
